Soho
I’m just getting started on this page . . . please come back!
My street display in Soho is at 411 West Broadway (between Spring and Prince). I have been there for 8 years, and seen many changes over that time.
Here is how it looked during late 2000 when I first started showing my work there. . . . notice the displayed photograph of the World Trade Center as the real towers loom on the horizon.
This link (click here) will take you to many more images of the scene in Soho.
The MOST unforgettable characters of Soho:
One of my best friends who has worked side-by-side with me in Soho since my earliest days there is painter Ralph Turturro. I took this picture of him (on the left) with his cousin, John.
Robert Lederman is by far one of the most courageous, committed, passionate, capable, intellectually powerful, articulate and multi-gifted men I have ever met. I will be writing much more about this extraordinary man whose name defines his character.
I could (and will) write multiple chapters about THIS guy . . . Paul Staffile.
With Charlie Guitar on West Broadway in Soho.
Charlie Guitar and Lee Ross perform together in Boom (on Spring Street in Soho).
Ben . . . a fashion photographer . . . it’s VERY hard to make oneself stand out in NYC. Ben seems to do it every time he walks by.
The “Cyborg Man” roamed the streets of Soho for years, loudly claiming that the world had been invaded by cyborgs, and that they were among us and indistinguishable from real humans EXCEPT that they limped on their left sides . . . a real loon.
Mauricio is a flamboyant and bigger-than-life friend who sells foreign movies on DVD. He is from an aristocratic family in Venezuela.
Every chance I get to photograph one of Soho’s MILLIONS of beautiful women wearing a Rosspilot hat, I take!
Sometimes they aren’t wearing one of my hats, but they are just SO gorgeous I cannot resist taking the photograph. This beautiful woman is Tamara, and she owns 4 “Rosspilot” 16×20 prints.
